Award winning playwright Ifa Bayeza, author of the acclaimed epic drama, “The Ballad of Emmett Till,” talks about her ten-year odyssey, bringing this seminal American saga to the contemporary stage, and reads excerpts from the play hailed as “riveting — triumphant,” “a masterful look at history” and “a major American work.”

“The Ballad of Emmett Till” is based on the brutal 1955 Mississippi murder of Chicago black youth Emmett Till a month after his fourteenth birthday and is a contemporary telling of Emmett's story, a jazz integration of past and present, the events as seen from the perspective of the youth himself.
