“I have a counselor to speak with when I need to at any time of the day, I haven’t seen that anywhere else I’ve lived. The staff here is open and they find the ways and the means to care for you. If there is anyplace you have a chance--it is at Community Access.”

Katherine Frazier, Tenant, 910 DeKalb Ave.

New York’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens, those living with mental illness, have difficulty finding and maintaining safe, stable, affordable housing. Of the approximately 36,000 people who are homeless in New York City, it is estimated that 12,000 have a psychiatric disability. And at least 9,000 people with psychiatric disabilities are released each year from New York City jails without adequate housing or support services after their release.

Community Access has been a trailblazer in the supportive housing movement in New York City, creating housing solutions for people with special needs through our transitional and supportive housing programs. We currently own and operate 13 buildings and 60-scattered site apartments located throughout Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn. A total of 800 apartment units provide homes for 955 people, 500 of whom are consumers of mental health services. We currently have 261 units in development and have another 90 units in pre-development.
