Community Access is thrilled to be the recipient this year of a “Supportive Housing Project Champion Award” from the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH). This national award recognizes Community Access for its cutting-edge supportive housing and social services programs, and, in particular, our newest affordable housing program at 1854 Cedar Avenue in the Bronx.
This brand new building opened its doors in March 2011 to provide affordable housing to low-income families and individuals with psychiatric disabilities. The partners in financing and developing this beautiful, state-of-the-art building are co-developer Alembic Development Company, general contractor HLS Builders Corp., architect Peter L. Woll Architect, P.C., the New York State Office of Mental Health, the New York State Housing Finance Agency, New York State Homes and Community Renewal, HSBC Bank USA, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and Richman Housing Resources, LLC. A pre-development loan from the Corporation for Supportive Housing also helped to get the project off the ground, with funds for environmental tests, borings, demolition, and commitment fees.
CSH advances its mission to prevent and end homelessness by providing advocacy, expertise, leadership, and financial resources to make it easier to create and operate supportive housing. CSH will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year at a special conference and cocktail reception on October 18, during which Community Access will join Anishanabe Wakiagun of Minneapolis, MN, and Direct Access to Housing of San Francisco, CA, as a recipient of the Supportive Housing Project Champion Award.
