Community Access has meant a lot to me for a number of years. On October 13, I will be participating in the organization's first ever Race Day event. I can’t wait and the same goes for the rest of my team!
I’m a 2007 Howie the Harp graduate. I volunteered with Community Access’ Advocacy department in 2006, interned in 2007 and was hired to continue this work part-time in 2008. Currently, I am still working in the Advocacy department. I love the work I do and being part of this organization.
I have been living with a mental health condition for 11 years now and my recovery has much to do with my involvement with Community Access. This is why I have decided to participate in Race Day. Anything I can do to spread the news about Community Access or help in any way, I am there.

There is so much stigma attached to people living with mental health issues, so coming out for Race Day is all about pride and hope. I think it’s being around others who believe in Community Access’ mission that makes it so special. This is very personal to me as a mental health recipient. I want to walk for Community Access because they have always been there for me. I am committed to helping it thrive.
Because I attribute my health to Community Access, my family and friends are eager to give support as well. Just as I've been helped along in my recovery, I now help share the same hope with others like me. Without them I would not have found my calling. I am planning to go to College to study Consumer Law so I may help others like me who often need someone to advocate for them against unlawful practices. Anyone reading this wish me the best!
